AllEarth Renewables
AllEarth Renewables new company headquarters and manufacturing facility, part of the Stoney Hill Master Plan, was developed to fill a specific need in Bristol Vermont, and Addison County. Due to a limited number of large manufacturing facilities for rent, many successful local companies have had to relocate out of the area as they’ve grown. AllEarth Renewables decided to reverse that trend by building this manufacturing facility and moving the company back to the town where owner David Blittersdorf began his renewable energy career in 1982, bringing about forty-five clean energy jobs with it.
The building was designed and constructed with energy efficiency and cost efficiency in mind. The 24,615-square-foot building was built at 50% of the cost per square foot of other similar manufacturing buildings, and the facility’s energy needs are fully met (and exceeded) by a rooftop photo-voltaic solar panel system. Insulated metal wall and roof panels attached to the steel structural frame provide a very tight building envelope (0.08 CFM75/SFBE-6 sided) allowing the building to be heated entirely with “air-to-water” electric heat pumps through the radiant concrete floor slab. A high-efficiency energy recovery ventilator system ensures high indoor air quality while minimizing energy loss.
The project was awarded Efficiency Vermont’s Best of the Best Award in the Large Commercial New Construction category for the “innovative and integrated design approach” of this project.
