Sunfield Farm

A familiar Vermont building tradition takes on a new expression at Sunfield Farm. Designed as a contemporary interpretation of rural architecture, the new residence and accompanying guest house draw from the simple forms and material language of traditional New England farm buildings while creating a home distinctly suited to modern life. For returning clients looking to downsize, the project offered an opportunity to create a more efficient home tailored to the way they wanted to live. The home’s orientation and layout were carefully considered in relation to the surrounding land, natural light, and views across the property. Simple gabled forms and natural materials further reinforce the home’s Vermont character.

Inside, carefully considered sight lines create a sense of connection between spaces. In the kitchen, the placement of the sink, cabinetry, and window was thoughtfully coordinated with the front entry, creating a clear visual relationship through the heart of the home. A separate guest house takes the form of a modern Vermont barn, sharing materials and architectural cues with the main residence. Located near a neighboring solar farm, the project came to be known as Sunfield Farm, a name inspired by this distinctive part of the property’s story. The result is a home that reflects both the clients’ changing needs and the continuity of a longstanding design relationship.
