Our Team

Milford Cushman

Milford Cushman is a professional designer with over 30 years of practice committed to creative, functional, intuitive and efficient design solutions.

When founding his design practice in 1988, Milford relied on his years of being an educator, a keen observer, a builder, a versatile designer and on the fundamental philosophy of collaboration with his studio, clients and contractors. His grasp of the intricate connection between people and their relationship with the built environment was evident when he was a young man. Now, his strength is his understanding that client and site specific design solutions make a significant difference in our lives.

Chad Forcier

Chad is a highly intuitive designer and skilled sketch artist who thrives on solving complex problems. His design work aspires to create functional and harmonious spaces and to incorporate energy efficient building materials and techniques. After graduating from Vermont Technical College in 1996, he was employed by Gilley Hinkel Architects in Litchfield County, Connecticut and then Royal Barry Wills in Boston, Massachusetts; both traditional residential Architectural firms.

From a family of engineers on his father’s side and graphic designers on his mother’s side, Chad grew up designing houses for himself and his siblings on his father’s drafting board. When he moved back to Vermont in 2000, he sought out the Cushman Design Group because of the timeless quality of their design work. In his private life, Chad is a father of three and an avid hiker.

Kelley Osgood

A 1997 graduate of Vermont Technical College, Kelley knew he wanted a career in architecture from as early as the sixth grade. He honed his architectural skills at Wiemann Lamphere Architects for nine years before joining our team in 2006. Kelley grew up in a family of masons and worked in the trade into his college years. This field experience has been invaluable in solving practical problems in building designs. He values the level of care the group takes in every aspect of design from how the building will look, how it will serve the client, how it will occupy the site and how it will make the smallest impact on the environment. He loves the strong team ethic at CDG and working hand in hand with contractors and artisans. An avid fly fisherman, Kelley knows what it takes to make the perfunctory “1000 casts” to catch the elusive steelhead trout – a methodical way of thinking that serves him well in not only reading the waters that he explores but wading through the challenges of each design project.

Michael Perpall

Michael is an Architect and LEED Accredited Professional who holds licenses in Massachusetts and Vermont. Since graduating from Tulane University with a Master of Architecture in 2001, he has worked for several esteemed architecture offices in the northeast. His diverse project portfolio includes single family and multi-family residential projects, as well as, healthcare, hospitality, manufacturing, office, and retail projects.

As an avid home chef, Michael appreciates the similar processes that cooking shares with architecture; the inspired beginnings of planning and design stages, inevitable budget trade-offs, ever increasing levels of execution, and ultimately the creation of an elevated experience to be shared with others. He believes that collaboration always leads to better outcomes, and that a few key details or techniques carried out thoughtfully can help a project establish a distinct identity.

Outside the office Michael also enjoys outdoor activities with his wife and son; snowboarding, skiing, mountain biking, swimming, golfing, and fishing.

Ryan Beaulieu

Ryan holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Norwich University. After graduating in 2000, he continued to work for a firm in the Mad River Valley until he joined CDG in 2010. He has developed CDG’s ability to produce 3D visualization models using Sketchup, Photoshop, and other rendering software. He is also skilled at developing early sketches into final construction drawings.

A high school trip to Germany struck Ryan with what great architecture can do for people. He found the Old World buildings and pedestrian-centric streets astounding in their beauty and detail. Ryan feels good architecture gives people a sense of comfort, and he strives for that quality on each project he undertakes.

Ryan is excited to be part of CDG because of the great relationships within the group and with its clients and contractors. He also appreciates the harmonious balance the firm achieves among collaboration, project leadership, and good business sense.

Ward Joyce
Terri L. Gregory

Terri trained as a studio potter in North Carolina in the early 70’s and during her career as a professional potter she built up an original repertoire of unique glaze formulas, which she labeled and organized so they could be reproduced. In 2005 those same skills helped as she began assisting Milford Cushman creating custom colors for clients; within a short time she became employed by CDG. Detail and result oriented, Terri also helps organize and manage specification details for project’s interior components, serving as a link between clients and contractors. Her work behind the scenes ensures the successful outcome of many phases of the group’s interior projects. When not working, Terri’s favorite things to do include riding horses, paddling, gardening and observing birds and wildlife at her home.

Nita Hultstrom

Nita brings strong organizational and financial skills, as well as a detail-oriented mindset to the Cushman Design Group. As Business Manager, she is a collaborative member of the CDG team, skillfully handling the business and marketing aspects of the firm.

Nita’s lifelong interest in design brought her to CDG’s Stowe, Vermont studio in 1997. She embraces how our firm’s process enables environmentally conscious design decisions to have a lasting impact on the built environment.

Nita holds a Bachelor’s degree in Plant Science and Business from the University of New Hampshire, and is certified as landscape designer. She began her career as the manager of two greenhouse businesses in Northeast Massachusetts. After 10 years on the North Shore, she moved to Vermont to enjoy the activities its mountains and lakes have to offer. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, preparing nutritious food, and restoring her 1875 farmhouse in Waterbury Center. When not in the office or at home, she can be found kayaking, hiking, biking, snowshoeing or skiing in the mountains of Vermont.

Jonathan Severinghaus

Growing up in Vermont, Jon was fascinated by the buildings he interacted with; their composition, structures, uses, and majestic rural settings. As a child he enjoyed documenting and reproducing drawings of friend’s homes or buildings of particular interest, as well as exploring his own creations on the drafting board.

Observation of and curiosity with the built environment remained a key part of Jon’s personality while he completed a degree in Economics from St. Lawrence University in 2009. His recent experience building his own home reinvigorated a long held passion for architectural design, and has led him to pursue a degree from Vermont Technical College where he is currently studying Architectural & Building Engineering Technology.

He brings a professional background in web marketing to CDG, helping to establish, direct, and maintain CDG’s online presence as well as assist with communication and advertising initiatives.
