Mountain Vista

The owners of stunning property in Waterbury requested that the design of their full-time residence would tie organically into the rocky hillside and surrounding mixed hardwood/softwood forest. We designed an Adirondack style home that is anchored to the landscape with a stone base and shingled siding and roof material. The landscape features dry laid stone walls linking locally harvested boulders and interlaced with gorgeous border gardens planted by Itinerant Gardeners of Stowe, VT.

The programmatic intent of the landscape design includes a 20’ x 40’ gunite swimming pool (by Northeast Pools & Spas) with a blue stone coping set into a lawn terrace, a five person spa adjacent to the exercise room and cascading, winding stone stairways held by rugged boulders. The concepts of journey and destination connect the built to the natural perimeter landscape. Over 150 conifer trees were planted to rebuild the natural vegetation as viewed from the driveway and to help screen the house when viewed from offsite.
